ROSEAU’S BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM PICKED UP A HOME PLAYOFF VICTORY LAST NIGHT 77-52 OVER THIEF RIVER FALLS. THE LEAD SLOWLY BALLOONED IN THE 2ND HALF, AFTER THE RAMS LED BY 13 AT HALFTIME. JACK HIRST’S 21 POINTS LED THE WAY, WITH JERRY BENDER ADDING 15 AND NATHAN O’CONNOR 16. ROSEAU WILL NEXT FACE TOP SEED PERHAM, AT 2:45 ON SATURDAY AT CONCORDIA COLLEGE IN MOORHEAD. 2ND SEED EAST GRAND FORKS ALSO ADVACNED, WHILE WARROAD WAS BEATEN 75-62 BY DILWORTH-GLYNDON-FELTON.

IN 8A BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS, FOUR-SEED BADGER-GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER ADVANCED WITH A 76-62 WIN OVER RED LAKE COUNTY. THE GATORS WILL NEXT SEE TOP SEED ADA-BORUP AT 3:30 TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT THE LITTLE RALPH IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.  ALL OTHER LOCAL TEAMS WERE ELIMINATED IN LAST NIGHTS QUARTERFINALS. THE NORTHER FREEZE FELL BY 4 TO SACRED HEART, KITTSON COUNTY CENTRAL LOST TO FERTILE-BELTRAMI, AND GOODRIDGE-GRYLA WAS BEATEN BY TOP-SEED CASS LAKE-BENA.

IN GIRLS BASKETBALL TONIGHT, ROSEAU PLAYS CROOKSTON AT THE U OF M IN CROOKSTON FOR THE SECTION 8AA CHAMPIONSHIP. STEPHEN-ARGYLE MEETS RED LAKE AT THE LITTLE RALPH IN THIEF RIVER FOR THE SECTION 8A CHAMPIONSHIP.

THE QUARTERFINAL ROUND OF THE CLASS AA STATE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT SAW FOUR COMPETITIVE GAMES, WITH BLAINE BEATING WHITE BEAR LAKE 4-2, EDEN PRAIRIE BEAT LAKEVILLE SOUTH 3-2 IN TRIPLE OVERTIME, EDINA BEAT MOORHEAD 4-2, AND ST. THOMAS ACADEMY BEAT DULUTH EAST 3-1.

IN THE CLASS A TOURNAMENT, EAST GRAND FORKS MEETS ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL AT 11:00 THIS MORNING.

TODD BERGERON TENDERED HIS RESIGNATION AS WRESTLING COACH FOR BADGER-GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER. HE COACHED THE TEAM FOR THE PAST 16 SEASONS.

AFTER LEADING HIS TEAM TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF THE CLASS AA GIRLS STATE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT, BRAINERD GIRLS HOCKEY COACH ANNOUNCED HE WILL NOT BE BACK ON THE BENCH NEXT SEASON. JIM ERNSTER HAD BEEN COACHING EITHER BOYS OR GIRLS HOCKEY IN BRAINERD SINCE 2002.

THE MINNESOTA WILD HAVE BEEN PLAYING SOME OF THEIR BEST HOCKEY AT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TIMES OF THE YEAR, AND DURING MAYBE THEIR TOUGHEST STRETCH OF OPPONENTS. THE WILD WENT INTO TAMPA BAY TO FACE THE LEAGUE BEST LIGHTNING LAST NIGHT, GOT A HAT TRICK FROM JASON ZUCKER AND DEVAN DUBNYK STOPPED ALL 25 SHOTS FOR A 3-0 SHUTOUT WIN.

THE WILD’S TIGHTEST COMPETITION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF PICTURE… THE DALLAS STARS WERE 4-0 WINNERS OVER THE SLUMPING COLORADO AVALANCHE, AND THE ARIZONA COYOTES SHUTOUT THE CALGARY FLAMES 2-0.

FORMER VIKINGS QUARTERBAK CASE KEENUM, WHO PLAYED LAST SEASON IN DENVER, WILL REPORTELDY BE TRADED TO THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS, WHO HAVE A WHOLE TO FILL AFTER ALEX SMITH WENT DOWN WITH THE CAREER THREATENING LEG INJURY. THE BRONCOS WILL RECEIVE JUST A 6-TH ROUND PICK IN RETURN.
