A SECOND ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE FOR WARROAD’S DISCOVERY AND DEVELOPMENT HUB IS TOMORROW  (8-5); AND FOLKS FROM THE LAKE OF THE WOODS BREWING COMPANY WILL BE AT THE HUB AT 3 P.M. BRENDA BAUMANN SAYS THE HUB  (ON LAKE STREET)  HAS BEEN WELL RECEIVED SINCE IT’S INCEPTION .  THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  RECOGNIZED A FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR DONATION TO THE SCHOOL’S FIRST ROBOTICS PROGRAM FROM THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION.

ROSEAU’S FIRST ROBOTICS TEAM COMPETES IN LATE MARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA. THE NORTHWEST ANGLE EDGE RIDERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB HAVE THEIR ANNUAL SNOW RALLY SATURDAY AT SUNSET LODGE ON OAK ISLAND . THERE’S A SNOWMOBILE TRAIL RIDE FRIDAY AFTERNOON.  JOE LAURIN SAYS THE EVENT IS THE EDGE RIDERS LARGEST FUNDRAISER; AND HE SAYS SNOWMOBILERS COME FROM ALL OVER THE REGION TO USE THE 150 MILES OF GROOMED TRAILS ….  A CANCER BENEFIT SPAGHETTI FUNDRAISER FOR EILEEN JOHNSON OF ROSEAU IS THIS EVENING,  STARTING AT FOUR,  AT THE ROSEAU AMERICAN LEGION. PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARD MEDICAL EXPENSES.

THE MINNESOTA  D.N.R.  CHANGES WALLEYE AND SAUGER REGULATIONS FRIDAY  ON LAKE OF THE WOODS AND THE RAINY RIVER. WINTER REGULATIONS WILL BE THE SAME AS SUMMER REGULATIONS,  WITH AN AGGREGATE LIMIT OF SIX FISH;  NO MORE THAN FOUR CAN BE WALLEYES. THE SAUGER TARGET HARVEST IS  250 THOUSAND POUNDS,  BUT ANGLERS ARE KEEPING MORE THAN 400 THOUSAND POUNDS OF SAUGERS;  AND EIGHTY PERCENT OF THAT HARVEST OCCURS IN THE WINTER.

THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA WOMENS FUND IS LOOKING FOR GRANT FUNDING PROPOSALS FOR PROGRAMS TO BENEFIT WOMEN AND GIRLS IN THE NORTHWEST REGION. GRANT APPLICATIONS CAN BE FOR UP TO TWENTY-FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS,  AND ARE DUE BY FRIDAY. ROSEAU IS ONE OF TWELVE COUNTIES IN THE NORTHWEST REGION.

A TRAVELING ART EXHIBIT,  WHICH HAS BEEN AT THE ROSEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY SINCE EARLY JANUARY,  MOVES TO THE HALLOCK PUBLIC LIBRARY SATURDAY. THAT NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL  EXHIBIT INCLUDES WORKS BY ALICIA SPILDE OF KARLSTAD;  BETSY SAURDIFF OF GRYGLA AND PAULETTE CHRISTIANSON OF BADGER.

A BIPARTISAN GROUP OF MINNESOTA LEGISLATORS,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  INTRODUCED A BILL SUPPORTING STATEWIDE FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAMS. DFL REPRESENTATIVE TODD LIPPERT OF NORTHFIELD SAYS THE TWO MILLION DOLLAR GRANT PROGRAM WOULD HELP RURAL COMMUNITIES ESPECIALLY … MORE THAN 270 MINNESOTA SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAMS.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GENE BRATENG OF ROSEAU IS SATURDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR. GENE BRATENG WAS  59.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MARK AGRE OF KARLSTAD ARE SATURDAY MORNING AT  10:30  AT BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH OF GREENBUSH.  VISITATION IS FRIDAY EVENING AFTER SIX, WITH A  ROSARY AND SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE  AT THE CHURCH. MARK AGRE WAS  58.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR THELMA ANDERSON OF WARROAD IS SATURDAY MORNING AT  10:30  AT JOHNSON FUNERAL SERVICE IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.  VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR. THELMA ANDERSON WAS  97.

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE BOWL TEAMS WERE 7TH AND 19TH OUT OF 24 TEAMS AT YESTERDAY’S SUB-REGION COMPETITION IN CROOKSTON.  THE TOP NINE SCHOOLS ADVANCE, SO ROSEAU COMPETES AT THE REGIONAL MARCH  13TH IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.

TOMORROW IS THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IN THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA ARTS COUNCIL EXHIBIT.  ARTISTS MUST BE FROM ONE OF SEVEN COUNTIES IN THE NORTHWEST REGION,  INCLUDING ROSEAU. THIS YEAR’S ANNUAL ART EXHIBIT IS MARCH 18TH THROUGH THE 31ST AT THE BADGER COMMUNITY CENTER.

MEMBERS OF A GROUP CALLED   ‘IMPACT 20/20’  WERE AT THE MINNESOTA STATE CAPITOL LAST WEEK,  TALKING WITH LEGISLATORS ABOUT ISSUES AFFECTING ECONOMIC PROSPERITY AND GROWTH IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA. THE PRIMARY ISSUE AREAS ARE EDUCATION,  WORKFORCE,  BROADBAND, HOUSING AND CHILDCARE.

A GRAND FORKS HERALD REPORT SAYS CHARGES AGAINST FORMER ROOSEVELT CITY COUNCIL MEMBER ARLYN STEWART HAVE BEEN DISMISSED. STEWART HAD BEEN CHARGED WITH DISORDERLY CONDUCT AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING A REPORTER FROM THE BAUDETTE NEWSPAPER.
